Anna Kournikova, who could be called a tennis star if she actually ever played tennis, will add another hyphenate to her list of dubious professional achievements, serving as an entertainment "reporter" for USA Networks coverage of the 2003 US Open Tennis Championships.

Kournikova was already skipping the US Open due to the string of injuries and professional distraction that have prevented her from winning a tournament in her career. Fortunately, while she'll miss out on smacking the fuzzy balls around, she'll still be able to do what she does best: Preen and vamp with the cameras running.

"Anna joins USA to provide part of the fun and sizzle in our coverage and we think she will bring viewers a sense of the celebrity aspect of the US Open," says Executive Producer and Senior Vice President Gordon Beck. "Anna will visit with us for a few days to have some fun as our roving entertainment reporter and we look forward to a fresh new character joining our team."

USA Sports' announcing team for the event includes John McEnroe and Tracy Austin, Jim Courier as well as play-by-play callers Ted Robinson, Bill Macatee and Michael Barkann.

Kournikova will join the USA crew on Wednesday, Aug. 7 trolling the United States National Tennis Center. She knows the grounds, having played in the US Open on many occasions including her first round dismissal in 2002 by the legendary Angelique Widjaja. Since making her professional tennis debut in 1995 at the age of 14, Kournikova has won doubles titles and reached the finals and semifinals of many singles events, always coming up just short. She rose to No. 8 in the world in 2000, but as of the beginning of August, she was down to No. 89 and slipping fast.

As a consolation, the blonde beauty has been on the cover of nearly ever lad magazine and been in high profile relationships with the likes of hockey star Sergei Fedorov and Enrique Iglesias.
